Number of “Fair Trade” Catholic Universities Growing

BY ISN STAFFFebruary 21, 2012

Earlier this week Manhattan College announced that they have achieved “Fair Trade University” status as defined by Fair Trade USA, making them the second Catholic university in the U.S. to earn this status.  The Lasallian university follows Siena College a fellow New York institution in earning the fair trade status.  What is most exciting about Manhattan’s effort is the cohesive cross-campus approach that engaged both academic and student life areas of campus.   By emphasizing both intellectual and emotional elements of fair trade, students and other campus community members experience a holistic understanding of the concept of “fair trade” and how that plays out in their consumer choices each day of their lives.
