BY ISN STAFFAugust 8. 2017

The Ignatian Solidarity Network announces that nominations are open for the 2018 Moira Erin O’Donnell Emerging Leaders Award.

The O’Donnell Award is given annually to two to three individuals ages 23-33 who have received an undergraduate degree from a Jesuit university and have demonstrated a significant commitment to leadership for social justice in their community.

Nominees demonstrate leadership for social justice that responds to the realities of poverty and injustice present in our world today, an approach to working for social justice consistent with the work and philosophy of Ignatian Solidarity Network and its mission, the values of Catholic Social Teaching, and Ignatian Spirituality, and potential for continued growth as a leader through study, discernment, and formation.

Moira O’Donnell had only served as ISN’s excutive director for less than a year when she passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 33. Her legacy lives on through the “Moira Erin O’Donnell Emerging Leaders Award.”

Moira Erin O’Donnell had served as ISN’s executive director for less than a year when she passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 33. While her time in service to the Ignatian family was brief, her exuberance and passion for the work of justice serves as an inspiration for future decades of emerging leaders. In honor of the 10th anniversary of Moira’s passing on October 9, 2005, the Ignatian Solidarity Network, in partnership with her family, announced in 2015 the establishment of the award.

2016 honorees include Sara Beste, Boston College (’05) and Creighton University School of Medicine (’09), Danny Swan, Wheeling Jesuit University (‘09), and Kristen Trudo, Loyola Marymount University (‘14).

Nominations are accepted from August 7 through December 15, 2017. Awardees will be announced in February of 2018 and honored in spring of 2018 at the Robert M. Holstein Faith Doing Justice Award reception in Los Angeles, CA.
