IFJT 2013 Keynote Fr. Jim Martin, S.J. makes appearance on Colbert Report to talk about Pope Francis Interview with Jesuit Media

Fr. Jim Martin, S.J., an Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice 2013  keynote speaker, made an appearance on Stephen Colbert’s news & comedy show, The Colbert Report this evening.  Fr. Martin spoke about America Magazine’s recent interview with Pope Francis, a groundbreaking story that offered unique perspectives about the first Jesuit Bishop of Rome.

Fr. Martin will speak on Saturday (11/16) evening at the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice in Washington, D.C. on the teach-in theme, “Illuminating a Horizon for Hope,” partially derived from a homily text given by Pope Francis early in his pontificate.   Other keynote speakers include: Sarita Gupta, Executive Director of Jobs with Justice & American Rights at Work, Kyle Kramer, Author of A Time to Plant: Life Lessons in Work, Prayer & Dirt, Dan Misleh – Executive Director of Catholic Coalition for Climate Change, and Peggy O’Neill, S.C. – Director of Centro Arte para la Paz.

In its sixteenth year ,the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice is the largest Catholic annual social justice gathering in the country.  Attendees from the Ignatian family (Jesuit institutions and larger church) across the U.S. come together in the context of social justice and solidarity to learn, reflect, pray, network, and advocate together.  Each year the crowd gathers in the spirit of the Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador, using their lives and ministry as inspiration for discovering the injustices of today and how we might engage in them.  The Teach-In is a place where people are empowered, re-energized, inspired, challenged, and supported by a community that sees faith and justice integrally linked.
