IMMIGRATION LEGISLATION SHOULD PROTECT THE VULNERABLE

As people of faith, we believe that Congress should put forward a common-sense and humane legislative solution for Dreamers – young people who were brought to the U.S. by their parents (including individuals with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). We believe such a solution must: (1) be bipartisan; (2) provide Dreamers with a path to citizenship; (3) recognize the sanctity of families; (4) recognize the right of nations to control their borders and balance this right with the right of vulnerable migrants to seek protection; and (5) maintain protections for unaccompanied children.

We join with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in calling on advocates of faith to say “NO” to two immigration bills (HR 4760  and HR 6136) that do not uphold the dignity of those who migrate or protect the vulnerable.

As the U.S. House prepares to vote on these bills — take a stand for these values.
