Catholic Bishops Expand Call for Legislative Action for Dreamers

The chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishop's Committee on Migration, Bishop Joe Vásquez, of Austin Texas, announces support for H.R. 4796, the "Uniting and Securing America" (USA) Act of 2018 as it is currently written. The USA Act is a bipartisan bill that offers a path to citizenship to Dreamers and augments existing border security technology at the U.S./Mexico border.

USCCB Chair on Migration and Catholic Leaders Submit Letters Expressing Deep Concern About Refugee Resettlement Numbers

Bishop Joe Vásquez of Austin, chairman of the USCCB Committee on Migration and 1600 Catholic leaders have sent letters to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of State urging dialogue on the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program.

USCCB Report Recommends U.S. Government Temporary Protected Status for Haiti

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Office of Migration and Refugee Services (USCCB/MRS), released a report this week entitled Haiti’s Ongoing Road to Recovery:The Necessity of an Extension of Temporary Protected Status, recommending the U.S. government extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti.   Haitian and immigration advocates held a rally in front of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office in Miami in May 2017.
