Dr. Julie Rubio, professor of social ethics, at the Jesuit School of Theology at Santa Clara University, and Dr. Gerald J. Beyer, associate professor of Christian ethics at Villanova University, will discuss how Catholic social teaching might shape university responses to current pressing issues, including worker justice, diversity and inclusion, and admissions/financial aid. As universities, including Santa Clara University, confront the challenge of covid-19 in the context of increasing corporatization of higher education, Rubio and Beyer will ask, “What would a just university look like? Can universities practice justice and succeed in today’s competitive environment?”
