Learn, pray, and advocate for justice at the largest annual Catholic social justice gathering in the United States.
The Teach-In is a place for members of the Ignatian family (Jesuit institutions and larger church) to be empowered, re-energized, inspired, challenged, and supported by a community that sees faith and justice integrally linked. Now in its 25th year, the Teach-In has a rich history rooted in honoring the Jesuits and their companions who were martyred in El Salvador in 1989.

Since its inception, the Ignatian Family Teach-In has been rooted in a deep fidelity to our ever-evolving call to live out a faith that does justice. This dynamic commitment must be constantly renewed: by gathering as communities, restoring our energies, celebrating success and mourning our losses—all of which helps us to continue engaging with and responding to the signs of our times.
Our world and church grapple with challenges old and new. These challenges require creativity, courage, and resilience—traits embodied by our first protest in Georgia twenty-five years ago. In Fratelli Tutti, Pope Francis wrote, “each new generation must take up the struggles and attainments of past generations, while setting its sights even higher. This is the path. Goodness, together with love, justice and solidarity, are not achieved once and for all; they have to be realized each day” (11).
As we gather each year in Washington, D.C., we do so in solidarity with all who have committed themselves to the work of justice. We do so with the acknowledgement that this work is never done, and that we are called, as Pope Francis reminds us, to continually reach higher in pursuit of a more just church and world.
