FAQ’s

Each year, this national conference draws over 1,800 passionate individuals from nationwide who desire to learn, reflect, pray, network, and advocate in the context of social justice and solidarity. Program features include: internationally-recognized keynote speakers, over 50 breakout sessions on social justice topics and skill areas, networking sessions, an advocacy day on Capitol Hill, and opportunities for prayer and reflection grounded in the spiritual tradition of St. Ignatius of Loyola.

The IFTJ was born out of a response to the 1989 murder of 6 Jesuit priests in El Salvador who were killed for their work with economically poor and marginalized people throughout Central America. Starting in 1997, the IFTJ took place in Columbus, Georgia and coincided with a nonviolent vigil calling for the closure of the U.S. Army School of the Americas where many of those responsible for the 1989 Jesuit murders were trained. In 2010, the Teach-In moved to Washington, D.C. in an effort to broaden the scope of social justice issues addressed and integrate opportunities for legislative advocacy on contemporary human rights and environmental justice issues.

ISN has a block of rooms at the Crystal City Gateway Marriott (conference hotel) for $129/night. Please book your rooms via the venue page.

Note: Rooms are likely to sell out by September 1. At that point, ISN will open up additional room blocks at local hotels.

Magis Level Sponsorship Details

For thirty seconds, invite the audience to learn more about your institution, your campaign, or your product from the large-scale breakout stage of your choice (first come first served).

Details Needed:

  • Preferred large-scale breakout session at which you would like to speak (LS topics confirmed in early July)
  • Names of speaker(s) representing your organization

Reach all 1,800+ Teach-In attendees through a post-event email sent by ISN.

Guidelines:

  • Write using a third-person voice
  • Include 1-2 high resolution photographs with your submission
  • All content will be subject to approval by ISN
  • Text: Approx. 150 words
  • Include links

For ninety seconds, invite the audience to learn more about your institution, your campaign, or your product from the mainstage.

Things to keep in mind:

  • 75% of the crowd is under the age of 22; 25% are all ages—including some faculty, staff, parishioners, etc.;
  • Magis and Loyola Sponsors are featured during two timeframes on Sunday, November 17 tentatively set for: 10:00 a.m.-10:05 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.-2:35 p.m.;
  • The Teach-In is intensely scheduled down to the second. You will be timed with a clock in front of the mainstage: we ask that you respect the overall schedule and adhere to this timeframe;
  • You are not able to defer your time to another entity; it is either used by your institution or it is waived;
  • You may choose to use video or audiovisual during your slot and/or use multiple speakers. Your time limit remains ninety seconds.

Submit one page of sponsored content. Advertorials are written and designed in a journalistic style to resemble other articles in the IFTJ program. Tell your organization’s story in a compelling way—it encourages readers not to thumb past your content simply because it looks like an ad.

  • Use quotes to support the main point of the article
  • Refrain from using language that sounds “sales-y”
  • Refrain from using logos, branding, prices, or other signs of advertising
  • Identify the writer with a byline, including name, title, and a brief biography if appropriate

  • All content will be subject to approval by ISN
