The theme for this year’s Season of Creation is “the web of life.” Since palm oil plantations and cattle grazing land are two major causes of deforestation in the Amazon, we will explore the web of life by learning about connections between our consumption of meat and palm oil, biodiversity loss, and threats facing indigenous communities in the Amazon and around the world. Join us in this challenge, especially as we prepare for the Synod on the Amazon in October 2019.
You choose how you’d like to fast:
- Fast from one thing throughout the season. Examples:
- Palm oil: Commit to buying cheese or bread that has no palm oil.
- Meat: Avoid red meat on Fridays or throughout the season.
- Fast from one thing each week, building up throughout. Examples:
- Palm oil: Start with bread week one, then chocolate, then skincare products.
- Meat: Start with red meat, then pork, then chicken.
- Take as many steps as you can and do a complete fast from palm oil or meat.
- A weekly email will give you tips for removing these items from your diet during the duration of the challenge.
