Jesuit School Alumni: Call on Fellow Alums to Pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform

It’s time to let the 43 alumni of Jesuit universities and high schools serving in the House of Representatives know that we need action on immigration reform!  Join Ignatian Solidarity Network in calling on fellow Jesuit school alumni to act in the Jesuit spirit of generous service to people in need. This effort furthers the call of the U.S. Jesuit Provincials 2013 letter to Congress and the Obama Administration calling for immigration reform.

Our goal is to deliver the following letter to each of our fellow alumni in Congress in mid-July, and we want to include over 1,000 signatures. Will you be one of them?

UPDATE: We have gathered over 1,000 signatures! Will you help us get to 1,500?

The Letter

Dear Representative XXXXX,

As fellow alumni of Jesuit educational institutions,  we call on you, the members of the U.S. House of Representatives, to enact immigration reform that opens a process for earned citizenship for the undocumented, promotes business and innovation while respecting the rights of workers, preserves and protects family unity and human dignity, and restores fairness and accountability to our immigration system.

As you well know, Jesuit education stresses the ideal of being “men and women for others,” with a particular commitment to those who are most vulnerable. As someone who has answered the call to public service so admirably, you are uniquely positioned to make a profound impact on the common good because our broken immigration system is hurting us all.

A humane immigration reform policy would respond to the urgent needs of the most vulnerable in our society, the 11 million undocumented individuals currently living and working in the shadows of our communities.  Likewise, immigration reform has the power to serve all U.S. citizens by growing our economy, strengthening our communities, and increasing safety and accountability at our borders.

In the Jesuit spirit of generous service to people in need and a persevering commitment to the common good, we call on you to seek comprehensive immigration reform without delay.

Sincerely,
