High School Religion Teacher, DC

Job Title:    High School Religion Teacher (Faculty)

Department:  Academics

Reports to: Principal


The candidate must have strong subject-matter knowledge of Catholic doctrine & practice; effective written and verbal communication skills, excellent time management, organization, multi-tasking skills and can prepare, plan, create and execute informative and engaging lesson plans for their subjects.  The candidate must demonstrate the ability differentiate classroom instruction to accommodate various classroom learners

Primary Roles and Responsibilities

Plan and implement rigorous and engaging lesson plans in alignment with the IB curriculum.
Teach 5 sections, lead an advisory group, and participate in supervisory duties.
Use data effectively to encourage and assess student growth.
Create a classroom culture built on respect, growth, and love of learning.
Use engaging strategies and cooperative learning techniques.
Communicate effectively with parents and families in order to best ensure student success.
Support and cultivate the Catholic identity of the school.
Participate in the life of the school including spirit, student activities, and Christian service.
Be an active member of the Carroll adult learning community including attending all faculty meetings.
Other duties as assigned.


Has at least a Bachelor degree in a related field
Coursework or degree in Theology, Catechesis, Religious Education, Divinity, or related area
Practicing Catholic affiliated with a parish
Has demonstrated teaching experience, preferably in an urban, high school setting.
Is certified to teach in MD, DC, or VA or is willing to gain certification within three years
Demonstrates strong writing and communication skills, a capacity for organization and follow-through, collaboration, and flexibility.
Has a growth mindset and a commitment to meeting the needs of every student in a diverse population.
Is committed to his/her own learning and professional development.

Minimum Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in content areas they wish to teach with a commitment to social justice and working with high school students

Coursework or degree in Theology, Catechesis, Religious Education, Divinity or related area

Minimum Experience Requirements:

Teaching experience and teacher certification is preferred, but teachers will be required to be certified 3 years from date of hire.

Other Requirements:

The ideal candidate must be a practicing Catholic actively affiliated with a parish and have knowledge, beliefs and practices sufficient to teach the faith.
has demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the educational mission of the Archdiocese of Washington, and the vision of Archbishop Carroll High School.
Have a positive attitude; good communication skills, a collaborative leadership style; sensitivity to working in a diverse, multicultural environment.
