Position Summary:

Manage and lead Social Justice program, joining with program directors in Music, Liturgy, Faith Formation and Ignatian Spirituality in leading a comprehensive and integrated program to meet the worship, formation, and justice requirements of the parish.

Supervisor: Pastor.

Work directly with other pastoral associates as well as the Social Justice Committee to plan and execute an annual work plan.


Essential Functions:

The Pastoral Associate for Social Justice provides guidance and support to the church’s social justice programs utilizing parishioner-volunteers. Specifically, the pastoral associate works with the social justice committee to plan, oversee and effectively implement social justice programs, including direct service, advocacy and educational opportunities. The pastoral associate organizes and builds the ministry, including recruiting, training and managing volunteers. The pastoral associate identifies service and justice opportunities for parishioners, networks with faith-based and community groups to build effective partnerships, and communicates themes, programs and activities to the parish at large. The Pastoral Associate also works in collaboration with the other pastoral associates (Liturgy, Faith Formation, Ignatian Spirituality), Jesuits, Holy Trinity School faculty, and other parish staff.


Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Serve as day-to-day, onsite coordinator of all parish Social Justice Ministry activities, including drives and donations, volunteer opportunities, and advocacy campaigns.  Prepare and administer the budget for the Social Justice Ministry in conjunction with the pastor. Oversee distribution of the annual tithe in collaboration with the tithe subcommittee of the social justice committee. Network with Interfaith and community groups as well as Jesuit institutions in DC and nationally to build effective partnerships that further social justice in the community.



Bachelor’s degree in social work, pastoral ministry or a related field. Familiarity with, and commitment to, Jesuit values and Catholic social teachings. Experience in volunteer organizations and/or community organizing.  Self-motivated and ability to organize work in a multi-task environment. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends. Excellent writing and communication skills. Basic understanding of budgets and fundraising. Microsoft Office.


Working Conditions: Weekdays, some evenings and weekends as required.
