The Director is responsible for the development, implementation and advancement of programs designed to promote student engagement in service, community-based learning, social justice advocacy and immersion learning. The Director will serve as the primary conveyor and collaborator between the Center, the institution’s academic units, and other university partners. The Director will lead the Center staff in developing and maintaining partnerships with a diverse representation of local, national and international community partners and other service and justice-related agencies.
The Director, Center for Service and Action will direct all aspects of the Center with an emphasis on the development, implementation and advancement of programs designed to promote student engagement in service, community-based learning, social justice advocacy and immersion learning. Serve as the primary collaborator between the Center and the institution’s academic units, as well as other university partners, including all departments within the Divisions of Student Affairs and Mission and Ministry. Lead the development of partnerships with a diverse representation of local, national and international community partners and other service and justice-related agencies. Actively support institutional efforts to integrate service and justice into the curriculum and co-curriculum, with particular attention on community-based learning opportunities and local, national, international, and virtual immersion programs. The Director will develop and support initiatives that promote diversity, equity and inclusion in Center programs and campus life. Engage in systemic analysis to ensure that Center programs are inclusive, accessible and meet the needs of the diverse student body. Recruit, develop, supervise and assess a team of professional staff members responsible for developing and delivering the Center’s programs. Directly supervise the Director of Community-based learning, the Associate Director for Student Engagement and a Senior Administrative Coordinator. Develop and manage the departmental budget, as well as manage other (grant, endowed, donor-raised, etc.) funds that support the work and programs of the Center. The Director will routinely evaluate the Center’s programs and assess student learning outcomes. Share and report results to promote the Center’s mission, accomplishments and needs. Actively engage with Catholic and Jesuit networks that support service-learning, advocacy work and diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education. Serve on university and divisional committees and workgroups as assigned or designated.

We seek candidates who typically possess a Master’s Degree in public administration, non-profit leadership, higher education administration or another related field or equivalent experience. Minimum five years of administrative and leadership experience focused on student development, service, justice advocacy, immersion learning or community-based learning. Proven experience working with college-aged students, faculty, and non-profit agencies. Experience with a diverse representation of local, national and international community partners and other service and justice-related agencies. Demonstrated knowledge of and capacity to articulate the value of students, staff and faculty engaging in service and justice work with local, national and international organizations. Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with administrators, students, staff, faculty and local and international community partners. Knowledge and ability to animate LMU’s Catholic Jesuit and Marymount mission, vision and values. Significant experience with and understanding of university systems, practices and procedures. Experience with developing and managing a program or departmental budget. Ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with diverse populations in a multicultural environment. Strong problem-solving skills in the context of interpersonal and group relations required. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and complete them in a timely fashion required. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Demonstrated computer competency and preferably knowledgeable of MS Word, Excel, on-line survey software, and web page publisher systems.
