Ignatian network partners respond to the Thursday, June 30, 2022, Supreme Court ruling that the Biden administration has the authority to terminate the Migrant Protection Protocols, also known as Remain in Mexico.

Javier Campos Morales, S.J. and Joaquín César Mora Salazar, S.J. were killed on June 21 inside the church of the community of Cerocahui, Chihuahua. Media reports state that Frs. Morales and Salazar were killed while trying to protect someone who sought refuge inside the church from an armed individual.

On April 27, 2022, the Ignatian Solidarity Network welcomed honorees and guests at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in New York City for Ignite: A Celebration of Justice to honor Marie Dennis and Fr. Bryan Massingale.

In partnership with the family of Moira Erin O’Donnell, the Ignatian Solidarity Network announces the 2022 recipients of the Moira Erin O’Donnell Emerging Leaders for Justice Award: James Havey (Marquette University ‘11) and Amanda Montez (Loyola Marymount University ‘15).

From February 18-20, 2022 ISN hosted the first Undocu Network (UN) Summit, welcoming 18 undocumented students from Jesuit and other Catholic universities.

Root Causes of Migration

The Root Causes Initiative, a coalition of grassroots and faith-based organizations in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico and the U.S. has released a comprehensive report on the Biden-Harris administration’s actions and progress addressing the drivers of migration from Central America and humanely manage migration at the U.S.-Mexico border.

In January, more than 120 educators gathered for a conversation focused on the examination of alternative break trips and whiteness in the context of Catholic education, led by Susan Haarman and Dr. Annie Selak.

Six Ignatian Solidarity Network member institutions from across the Jesuit network have been awarded small grants from the Victory Noll Sisters and Catholic Climate Covenant for sustainability and creation care programs and initiatives.

A graduate of Gonzaga College High School and Loyola University Chicago is on day eight of a hunger strike outside of the White House, demanding that President Biden follow through on his campaign promise to pass climate policy that matches the urgency and the scale of the current climate emergency.

Members of the Jesuit network joined asylum seekers and Catholic leaders at the U.S.-Mexico border to march in solidarity with migrant families demanding the Biden Administration respect their right to asylum.

The Jesuits West CORE’s Ignite program, held during the summers of 2020 and 2021, is designed to train and empower a diverse cohort of high school students in community organizing leadership.
