Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa Sponsors Council

Position Description: Shared Grant Writer (Independent Contractor)

Background

The Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa (the “Congregation”) founded two colleges and five elementary and secondary schools in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois.  The Congregation has transferred sponsorship duties to an oversight body, the Sponsors Council.  Boards of each institution are accountable to the Sponsors Council for mission and sustainability.

The Sponsors Council would like to make a grant writer (the “Grant Writer”) available to the schools as a shared resource.  Specifically, the Sponsors Council oversees a single elementary school and four secondary schools.  It envisions the grant writer would seek funds for each of these schools (the “Sponsored Schools”).

The Sponsors Council seeks to contract with a grant writer (as an independent contractor).  It envisions this engagement as a proof of concept during the current academic year.  It has funding for this academic year; ongoing engagement would depend on the experience and success of the pilot program.

Duties

The Grant Writer will report administratively to the Executive Director of Sponsorship.  At the same time, he or she will serve each of the Sponsored Schools.  In doing so, he or she will need to engage deeply with leadership of the Sponsored Schools – presidents and principals – to understand their missions and strategic priorities.

The Sponsors Council envisions that the Grant Writer will seek funding from national catholic-based sources as well as local sources.

The Grant Writer will work remotely.  In engaging with Sponsored School leadership, he or she may visit respective schools, as practical.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have a deep appreciation for and commitment to Catholic identity in secondary education.  He or she should be prepared to promote the values of the Congregation.

The successful candidate should have a record of success in writing grants in support of Catholic schools.  He or she should be well-prepared to:

  • study and understand the unique history, structure, objectives, programs and financial needs of the respective Sponsored Schools;
  • research grant opportunities;
  •  draft grant proposals and supporting documents base on the funding needs of the Sponsored Schools;
  • submit proposals for peer review and approval; and
  • maintain records and submit reports related to grant opportunities.

Response

Interested candidates should contact Rita Cutarelli. Please provide, as writing samples, two redacted proposals.
