Independence Mission Schools is looking for candidates who have a commitment to our mission, a growth mindset for themselves and students, experience in differentiating instruction based on comprehensive data analysis in order to meet each student’s needs, and a desire to work in a collaborative setting as an educational leader.
Independence Mission Schools (IMS) is in search of substitute teachers to work as needed throughout 15 culturally diverse, urban Catholic PK-8 schools.
IMS manages a network of 15 Catholic elementary schools across the city of Philadelphia and in surrounding regions. Substitute teachers may be offered work on a per diem basis by any of our 15 schools as additional staffing is required.
Successful candidates must be able to clear all background checks as listed on Careers Page.
Bachelor Degree required; Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate appropriate content area preferred.

Independence Mission Schools provides a transformative Catholic education to children of all faiths in low-income neighborhoods across the city of Philadelphia.
One of the poorest urban centers in the nation, Philadelphia has 400,000 residents living in poverty. Among students attending an Independence Mission School, 36% live in poverty, nearly double the rate of children across the nation. That’s a staggering number.
Each day we open our doors to nearly 5,000 students, many carrying with them the challenges of life below the poverty line — food insecurity, home insecurity, violence and fundamental learning deficits.
