The Oakland Catholic Worker(OCW) invites you to join us in advocacy, community and solidarity by serving as a live-in staff with unhoused immigrants families from Mexico and Central and South America who are seeking safer and more hopeful lives.

OCW provides transitional shelter and support services to empower our immigrant families on their path to self-sufficiency.  We are looking for individuals who have a desire to support, learn alongside, and to guide out families as they begin building their life in a new and challenging environment, On-going training and supplementary Spanish-language classes will be provided. As a member of our team, you will accompany our families by showing them how to navigate and find essential social services, legal assistance and life-building resources and opportunities.

Rooted in the mission of Dorothy Day, OCW is more than a “job” or a social service organization. Staff live in close proximity to our immigrant community, sharing in each other’s lived experiences and diverse cultural and spiritual backgrounds.  Our daily life together challenges and transforms us as we create community together and discover how much we belong to each other.

Those with Spanish language proficiency and an interest in working with the Latino immigrant community are highly encouraged to apply. Terms and types of service are flexible, though longer term commitments are encouraged.

Staff compensation: $2,000 monthly stipend, housing at work site and basic food and living supplies.
