ABOUT US

Sacred Heart Nativity Schools provide a transformative middle school education to low-income youth in San Jose.  Nativity is a Jesuit, faith-based middle school located in the Washington Gardner neighborhood and  provides a holistic education that supports the growth and development of a child intellectually, spiritually, physically, and emotionally.  Nativity consists of two middle schools: Sacred Heart Nativity School for Boys (established in 2001) and Our Lady of Grace Nativity School for Girls (established 2006). Our mission and entire program is for the purpose of breaking the cycle of poverty through education.

POSITION SUMMARY

The primary function of the Associate Director is to assist the Director of Graduate Support  in implementing a holistic Graduate Support Program for all Nativity students, alumni, and families to help ensure their success as they advance into high school, college, and in their careers. Works in collaboration with the school support services team, faculty and staff under the direction and supervision of the Director of Graduate Support.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

School Wide Support (Current students & families)

Assists with the schedule and preparation for High School visits/presentations in the Fall
Works with the Director to help publicize the open houses, schedule placement testing, and application processes of appropriate college preparatory high schools
Helps prepare students for the Catholic high school placement test (HSPT)
Assist students and their families with the high school application process including: application, financial aid, fee waiver/vouchers and scholarship opportunities
Assist in scheduling students for high school Shadow Visit Days
Translate information for application process, if necessary
With Director of Graduate Support, attend informational meetings for a variety of high school settings/environment in search of additional options for student placement
Assist with the planning and implementation of the High School Prep Class
With school support services team, promote and facilitate college-going culture

Nativity alumni and their families throughout their high school career

Assist Director with contacting alumni to ensure smooth transition to high school
Tracks the academic and personal progress of all Nativity alumni in high school
Coordinate academic assistance programming for alumni who need such assistance
Work with Nativity and high school administration to assist students/alumni in need of non-academic support

Nativity alumni and their families support: prepare for the college application process

Assists Director of Graduate Support to guide Nativity alumni in identifying and applying to colleges, help identify sources of funding, scholarships and financial aid applications
Assist graduates in the SAT and similar testing processes as necessary
Works with Director to coordinate college visits and tours

Nativity alumni and their families: throughout their college careers

 

Assists Director of Graduate Support to Identify summer job opportunities or internships
Support the Nativity and the Office of Advancement recruit alumni for events

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree (preferred).

Bilingual (Spanish-English)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bi-cultural competency or experience working in low-income or urban school settings.

2- 3 years of experience working with middle school, high school, and college students.

Experience working in a faith-based community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Ability to lift 25 lbs. without help.

Ability to look at a computer monitor for long periods of time.

Ability to sit for long periods of time.

Physically able to assist, when necessary, with event setup and breakdown, including lifting up to 25 lbs.

Ability to work in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a

varied and diverse array of contacts.

SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS

TB testing

Fingerprinting – Must not have felony convictions or other serious violations

Clean DMV driving record

GENERAL INFORMATION

Reports to the Director of Graduate Support

Full-Time, exempt, 12 month position. Work hours may vary (including evenings and weekends)
