St. Nicholaus Children’s Center Kemondo (NCCK) is a residential home for orphaned, disabled and vulnerable children operated by the Bukoba Catholic Diocese, Tanzania, East Africa. The institution is located on the west shores of Lake Victoria and has good accessibility via the public infrastructure. St. Nicholaus Children’s Center was opened in 2011 and is currently home for 44 children and youths ranging from 2 to 19 years old.

Position: For the position of “Director of St. Nicholaus Children’s Center“ from spring 2020 or earlier we are looking for a health/social professional (social worker, social educationalist, curative educator (m/f/d))

Your tasks:

  • Managing of St. Nicolaus Children´s Center with a current staff of 22 in 3 teams (Educational Team, Technical/Supply Team, Commercial/Administrative Team),
  • Heading the educational team with currently 10 local staff,
  • Ensuring child protection in accordance with international established standards,
  • Identifying, assessing and treating psycho-social  difficulties, health promotion,
  • Elaborating und realizing group educational offers (Leisure/Culture),
  • Collaborating with families, parents, schools and authorities as well as with internal and external partners,
  • Regular meetings with all teams and the elaboration of development concepts with the overall team,
  • Reporting and documentation,
  • Responsible for the communication with Nikolaushaus e.V. in Germany (main sponsor).

Your qualification:

  • Academic degree or comparable in social work, pedagogy, curative education
  • Experience in residential care of children and teenagers,
  • Willingness to engage in the Tanzanian culture and language,
  • Flexibility, experience with conflict resolution strategies, resilience,
  • Management and also teamwork competence,
  • Full command the English language both spoken and written, willingness to learn Kisuaheli,
  • Strong communicational skills
  • Driving license for Tanzania or international driving license
