Comprehensive Ed and Advocacy Effort for Immigration and Refugees

For the last couple of years, the parish has supported efforts to educate and advocate for immigrants and refugees. Activities include: providing temporary housing for an Iraqi family, promoting and facilitating the JF Exploring Migration Curriculum, promoting and presenting 2 community forums on Immigration (Immigration 101 and 102), crafting a mission statement – the church of accompaniment and beginning efforts to advocate for immigrants and refugees.

Discernment Guide for Advocacy Opportunity

When St. Ignatius started to get involved more with advocacy on an ecojustice area, we shared the possibilities with parishioners and asked for their input on an issue to focus on. To help them make an informed decision, this discernment guide was offered with background on the topics, connections to Catholic Social Teaching and examples of how people could get involved. While this guide is Portland, OR specific, could be used as a template.
