300+ Faith Groups Urge President and Congress to Protect Central American Children and Families

Today, the Ignatian Solidarity Network joined more than 300 faith-based organizations delivered a letter to President Barack Obama and Members of Congress urging protection, care and legal counsel for the thousands of Central American children who have fled escalating violence, conflict and exploitation in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

The current minimum wage today yields an annual salary of about $15,080—which is below the poverty level for any size family that includes even one child. It's been five years since Congress raised the federal minimum wage (currently $7.25). As Fr. Fred Kammer, S.J., (former president of Catholic Charities USA) says often, "raising the minimum wage is about dignity and it is about justice."
