The conditions of the possibility of transformative solidarity concern the level of presence with and for ourselves, Jesus, and the most despised of God’s children in our time and place. Mary, along with Diamond Reynolds and too many others, still weeps in our midst.

From Cleveland: Let Go Of Your Stereotypes

I implore everyone to refrain from "Us vs. Them" thinking that might incite violence and further divide us in any way. For those in Cleveland, be present at the events in the way you see fit (attending, protesting, observing, etc.), but when encountering a being with a different perspective, please try to listen for the most basic goals you share, like safety.

Black Lives Matter: A Reprise

I wonder about the Church’s collective inaction and silence, in response to this pillaging of black bodies. I wonder how it drifted from the message of this revolutionary Jesus: challenging the corruption of his society; flipping tables in anger at misplaced priorities; traveling, on foot, to the margins, rather than ever suggesting that the marginalized, in their despair, should somehow find him. Consistently affirming that their lives mattered. The poor, the afflicted, the hungry—he was specific, because the system around him was constructed to deny the value of those specific lives.
