JRS/USA Urges Compassionate Treatment of Children

In light of ongoing reports of significant human rights abuses in U.S. immigration detention centers, particularly housing immigrant children, Jesuit Refugee Service/USA (JRS/USA) has released a statement urging the compassionate treatment of children.

“Migrant children should not bear the inappropriate responsibility of parenting other children who have been forcibly separated from their parents,” said Joan Rosenhauer, JRS/USA executive director, in the statement. “It is the adults’ duty to treat them all with the utmost care. Failure to do so can result in further trauma and potentially long-term psychological damage.”
