JUSTICE IS THE CHAMPION
March 11 – April 26
We’re getting in on the spirit of “that other madness event that happens in March” with a friendly competition where justice is the champion.
From March 11-April 26, join the Ignatian network in taking 5,000 actions for more just migration and environmental policies. There will be scoreboards, there will be prizes, and most of all, there will be opportunities to use our collective power to stand up for justice.
How It Works
The Competition:We will be engaging in a friendly competition amongst 4 regions of the United States (aligned with Jesuit provinces) for total points as well as celebrating the top-scoring high school, college, and parish. This competition is designed for both Jesuit and other Catholic institutions!
The Prize: The top-scoring high school, college, and parish will each receive $100 to the ISN store to bring some new justice swag to your community AND bragging rights.
STEP 1: Register Your “Team”
Jesuit and other Catholic high schools, colleges, and parishes are invited to play. Your institution = your team.
STEP 2: Form Your Gameplan
March-April, engage in learning, prayer, and in particular, action for more just migration and environmental policies. Each activity below is worth varying levels of points, and you can count engagement on migration/ecology with ISN and/or your province and partner organizations including JRS/USA, Kino Border Initiative, Catholic Climate Covenant, and Laudato Si’ Movement. Activities qualify for points every time they’re completed. You will also receive points for every advocacy action taken.
- Legislative meetings = 50 points/meeting
- Phone/letter drives = 20 points/drive
- Total actions = 1 point per person taking action
- Prayer events = 10 points/event
- Educational events = 10 points/event
For example, an institution that hosts one educational event (10 points), two prayer services (20 points), and five legislative meetings, including 30 people (250 points + 30 total action points), would score 310 points.
You may submit your scoring form as many times as you’d like; we will track your cumulative score.
STEP 3: Prepare
We have included resources below to help you book and prepare for legislative advocacy meetings, plan phone/letter drives, engage with partner organizations, and/or host a prayer service or educational event.
STEP 4: Game On
Throughout the competition, ISN will provide updates on teams’ and provinces’ scores and will celebrate our collective work for justice. In Ignatian Advocacy Madness, justice is the ultimate champion.
FAQs
Can I count my school’s engagement with other organizations? Yes! As long as it relates to migration and/or ecological justice, you can count education, prayer, and advocacy engagements that are done in partnership with other organizations, your province, and other outlets. Our goal is to uplift our collective network’s power to enact social change!
How often can I track my institution’s actions? As often as you’d like. Our scoreboard will automatically update each time you add additional actions. We recommend filling out the score sheet once a week, so we can celebrate your work on social media, and watch the score boards grow!
I am participating in the Jesuits West Advocacy Days in February. Can I count it? Yes! While the competition officially runs from March 11-April 26, you may count your school’s engagement in this important program.
