Georgetown Students to Host Virtual 22nd O’Connor Conference on Life

BY ISN STAFF | January 20, 2021

The Cardinal O’Connor Conference, the largest collegiate pro-life conference in America, will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021. The theme of this year’s conference is “Global Pro-Life Approaches in the 21st Century.” The event will feature a distinguished panel of pro-life advocates who will examine how to build a technologically innovative pro-life movement in our nation and around the world.

O’Connor Conference on Life

Each year, the Cardinal O’Connor Conference on Life strives to promote intellectually rigorous discourse on the sanctity of human life as well as build a culture of life both within and beyond the Georgetown community. Georgetown students founded the Conference in 2000 and remain both the organizers and facilitators of what has become the largest student-run, pro-life Conference in the United States. Rooted in the Catholic tradition, the Conference is named in the honor of His Eminence John Cardinal O’Connor, who principally committed himself to advocate for the defenseless and eloquently defend pro-life positions.

The event will feature a keynote address from Aimee Murphy, the founder and former executive director of Rehumanize International. A panel discussion, moderated by Catherine Hadro, host and managing editor of EWTN Pro-Life Weekly, will feature advocates including Reggie Littlejohn, founder and president of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, Valerie Huber, M.Ed., special representative for Global Women’s Health, Dr. Alveda King, niece of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King and executive director of Priests for Life’s outreach branch Civil Rights for the Unborn, and Sr. Dede Byrne, Little Workers of the Sacred Heart. The Ignatian Solidarity Network and the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States are 2021 sponsors of the event.

Luke Lamey, a senior at Georgetown University and a co-director of this year’s conference, notes that  “despite the challenges we’ve faced this year with the pandemic, we’re grateful to be able to host the 22nd Cardinal O’Connor Conference. Given that our attendees will be tuning in from around the world, this year’s situation is particularly well-suited for our theme of defending life globally. Through our keynote, panelists, and speakers, we’re excited to continue to equip our attendees with the knowledge necessary to defend life at all stages.”

To register for the conference, RSVP via the Conference’s Eventbrite page. The full schedule can be found here.
