Compassion: Jesuit Conference Joins Call on Unaccompanied Children

The U.S. Jesuit Conference joined approximately 50 other faith-based and immigrant rights NGO's in calling on the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs regarding factors which are causing unaccompanied children to seek refuge in the U.S. from grave violence, impunity, and lack of educational and economic opportunity.

Faith Groups call on President to address rights violations of current immigration system

Earlier this week twenty-four national faith-based organizations, including the Ignatian Solidarity Network delivered a letter to President Barack Obama, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson, and Attorney General Eric Holder urging them to address human and civil rights violations, lack of transparency, and governance issues that continue within the U.S. government’s immigration enforcement practices.

Who will hold the U.S. accountable for a rush to deport the most vulnerable?

On a personal note as someone who works regularly with Honduran Jesuits and lay-colleagues, and has visited the vacant neighborhoods, besieged schools and communities in San Pedro, Progreso, and Teguz, I’m shocked by the choices my government is currently making. I expect better.
